Plateform demo

Sunday, Nov 21, 2021 by Christophe Cerisara project

We have maintained a demonstration site for the OLKi plateform prototype from 2019 to 2021 and we have used it succesfully to demonstrate federation of corpora across instances, as well as two-way interactions of comments streams between the platform and the Mastodon social network. We have also published on our platform video streams that were hosted on a linked PeerTube server. This two-years prototype demonstrator has been a success, but we cannot support anymore its maintenance in the long term, and this is why we have decided to stop the demonstration as of November 2021.

A network of services

Tuesday, May 21, 2019 by Christophe Cerisara project

The OLKi platform is an ideal framework to deploy scientific services and make them accessible to everyone, while still being controled by their owner. The fact to deploy the service within a social network is interesting, as social networks are the places where people spend most of their time, and more and more expect to find everything they need. The envisioned services are: Services for scientific watch: The platform is connected to paper repositories, especially arXiv and HAL.

The OLKi platform is a social network for scientists, i.e., a place where scientists can discuss together about science, about a paper… Useful features for scientific discussions will be (or are already) implemented: Writing maths with a latex-like notation Linking to a corpus, or to a part of a corpus Communities gather together naturally in the federation paradigm Citing a paper … Thanks to the W3C ActivityPub standard, this social network will also be naturally part of the Fediverse, i.

Towards ethical science

Tuesday, May 21, 2019 by Christophe Cerisara project

The word “Ethics” has many meanings; the one we consider here concerns protecting the privacy of citizens, making science open and transparent, governing the platform collaboratively, and letting the control of data to data producers. All these aspects derive from the principles of federation. As a consequence, the OLKi platform will constitute an ideal solution to free European research from centralized platforms, and let Europe researchers gain back control over their resources, and progress towards openess and ethics in science.
